Abstract | In this paper, the dynamic behaviors of several high strength fibers, including Kevlar, ultra high density PE, glass fibers, Carbon fibers etc., were investigated experimentally, with the Split Hopkinson Tension Bar. The effect of strain rate on the elastic modules, strength, failure strain and failure characteristics of fibers, was analyzed with the relative stress vs. strain curves and SEM observations of fracture modes. In the last part, some discussions and suggestions were presented on the building of the constitutive law and model. |
