AbstractThis work reveals seven kinds of surface "flower" waves and one hydrothermal wave pattern induced by thermocapillary convection with the test fluid KF96-1 silicone oil in an open annular pool. The configuration of those "flower" waves is researched via experiments using inferred technique. m=0 and m=6 are found to be the most possible models arising in succession when the layer thickness h is enlarging. It is clear to see the thicker the flow layer is, the larger Marangoni stress needed to form m=0 and m=6 oscillatory models when 0.3
