The influence of the fairing shape and cross winds on the aerodynamic characteristics of pantograph

摘要 The aerodynamic characteristics of pantograph have a great influence on the current collection of modern electric locomotive. It's an efficient method to install a suitable pantograph fairing to improve the pantograph aerodynamic performance. But the cross-wind is generally regarded as a key factor to worsen the aerodynamic characteristics of pantograph. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the influence of pantograph fairing shape and cross-wind speeds on the unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of pantograph by using the detached eddy simulation method. The results show that the flow field caused by pantograph has salient unsteady characteristics. In the cases of uninstalled fairing, the lift force fluctuation of pantograph slider intensify with the cross wind. And the lift force fluctuation will not be worse with the increasing of cross-wind speed. On the other hand, different designs of pantograph fairing largely affect the pantograph flow field and the aerodynamic forces of the pantograph slider. When the fairings are equipped in the pantograph system, the lift force fluctuation of pantograph slider increases without cross wind. However, both types of the fairing reduce the amplitude of lift force of pantograph slider with cross wind. In the end, the author gives the pantograph fairing aerodynamic optimization recommendations based on the research results. © Civil-Comp Press, 2014.
