AbstractFor the aerodynamic optimization of the outline of a high speed train and the experimental simulation, a device was developed for testing the acceleration and deceleration of the train model in two opposite directions. The power of the models is from compressed air and the braking force from the relative motion of the permanent magnets to the motionless steel plates along the tracks. The initial pressure of the compressed air determines the speed of the train model and the brake distance is determined from the kinetic energy of the model and the weight of the magnet on the bottom of the model. Two kinds of train model with the weights of 265 kg and 106 kg can be accelerated to a speed of 401 km/h and 507 km/h, respectively, within a brake distance of 70 m. In addition, some simulation of the passing of the train model through tunnels has been carried out. The corresponding experimental results of the evolution of the pressure waves on the tunnel wall are introduced in this paper. © Civil-Comp Press, 2016.
