AbstractThe induced airflow from passing trains will generate an adverse impact to people near trains; especially the aerodynamic forces on the human body generated by a high-speed train wind which will endanger the safety of pedestrians or roadside workers. In this paper, the improved delayed detached eddy simulation method is used to study the train wind. The impact of the affiliated components and the length of the train on the train wind are analyzed. The results indicate that the affiliated components and the length of the train have no impact on the train wind in the region ahead of the leading nose. With the length of the train increasing, the longitudinal train wind in the downstream and wake region will increase along the train length, while the transverse train wind will not be affected. The affiliated components affect the train wind near the train, while in the region far away from the train the impact will be decreased greatly. © Civil-Comp Press, 2016.
