Abstract | The fatigue failure of a plate-type as-cast TiAl alloy was investigated in this paper. Fatigue tests were carried out by using a specially designed novel holder at room temperature with stress ratio of 0.1. Through the observation on the failure specimens, some factors in relation to the fatigue failure like surface roughness, grain orientation and grain size were investigated. Corresponding results show that surface roughness takes little effect on the fatigue behaviour, and that parallel-orientation and fine grains possess the best resistance to fatigue cracking, whereas coarse grains and perpendicular-orientation possess the lowest resistance. |
